Happy BC Blueberry Day + Giveaway!

go blue bc

July 15 has been officially declared BC Blueberry Day in British Columbia. Did you know that BC is one of the top high bush blueberry growing regions worldwide? Producing 96% of Canada’s cultivated blueberries.

I have to say that I discovered this delicious super food when I moved to Canada 10 years ago. My whole family loves them, we go blueberry picking every summer around our local farms.

My favourite way to eat them are frozen. They are the perfect replacement for all the sweet cravings, as they are filled with antioxidants and nutrients like vitamin C (One serving delivers almost 25% of one’s daily requirements). I usually storage them on my freezer and try to eat them within 10 days.

To celebrate this season, BC Blueberry Council will house how-to videos, chef and grower interviews, recipes, family-friendly activities from July 15 to BC day (August 3) at GoBlueBC.ca

In this website, you’ll find the best places where to get yours and also a chance to enter to a contest host by White Spot and Triple O’S where families can enter to win amazing blueberry-themed prize packs as well as the grand price of $1000 gift cards! (open to residents of British Columbia)

As the primary Go Blue BC restaurant partners, they will feature a BC Blueberry forward menu that officially kicks off July 13 at White Spot and July 20th at Triple O’s. White Spot menu items include a Fresh BC Blueberry Pie, Blueberry Pie milkshake, blueberry Chicken Salad and Blueberry cheesecake (My Favourite!).

Please remember to check the label “BC grown” before buying yours at grocery stores, also check country of origin listed on the bag to make sure it says “Canada”. Supporting our local economy and farmers is crucial right now!

Tell me, what is your favourite way to eat your blueberries?
